Change Breakfast

Not everyone who chooses to commit to the 30 Days to Healthy Living Program with Arbonne jumps in all at once. Our friend, Json Marruffo was approaching 40 and wanted to cross that milestone with great health and energy, but was feeling pretty crappy when we connected with him last year about this time. He was always tired, not sleeping well, overweight, and on-the-go. He knew he wanted to make a change but was skeptical of just another fad diet scheme.

We started sharing with him about this special program with Arbonne and suggested that he start with one simple new habit. Change breakfast. Start the day with a healthy vegan protein shake, and see if you can keep that up for 30 days.

He did, and the rest is history. After a month and a half of that habit, he was able to jump in more easily to the full 30 Days Program, and even did a second month to achieve greater results. Overall he’s lost almost 50 pounds, and has a new normal based on new healthy habits.

We interviewed him tonight and got the full, behind-the-scenes scoop on the thought processes along his journey. We had been walking with him every step of the way, but it was still neat for us to hear how much the support meant to him – from us, his family, his colleagues and the Private Facebook Group.

Some things from his story that may be helpful if you are considering this program:

Start small – If you don’t feel like you’re up for a handful of new habits, start with breakfast. Keep it simple. Fill your Vegan Arbonne Protein shake with spinach, frozen berries, chia seeds, and fiber, and get your day started right.

Decide – Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? It’s time to commit. Decide that this is going to be your “harajuku moment” and don’t look back. Make a change that you want to stick with for the long haul.

Garner Support – We can’t do this alone. Arbonne’s 30 Days program inherently has the support from the consultant who invited you as well as the Facebook Group Facilitator and hundreds of others doing around the country doing it with you. But it’s also wise to solicit support from those closest to you. Your family, especially. Json got his family on board, and his kids were surprised that healthy food could taste so good!

Surprise Yourself – Some of the surprising byproducts of the program for Json included: dinner time prep conversations with his kids, no more snoring, colleagues becoming inspired and more mindful of eating healthy, and an overall sense of just feeling great! All of those things were even better benefits than the weight loss! You never know all the symptoms that may be remedied by just eating organic, real foods and staying away from the nutrient-weak convenient foods and cleansing your body of a long-term build up of toxins.

I loved what Json said about where he’s at today: “When you’re driving a Beamer, you don’t want to go back to driving a Jalopy!” #gethealthy #stayhealthy

If this is something that sounds interesting to you, let me know, and I’d love to share more info and help get you started.

A Series of Conversations

I think at its core, business is human.

It’s about adding value in life – to the individual, family, or community – whether through a product, service, or employment.

At a simple level, products or services should make life either easier or more enjoyable, productive, meaningful or memorable.

Sometimes that need is sought out. But sometimes there’s a bit of education required to communicate that benefit to those who didn’t know it previously existed.

In my Arbonne business I have a mix of both. Sometimes people reach out to me because they hear the great results others have had upgrading their health in our 30 Days Program and creating sustainable habits and choices. Sometimes they are looking for another stream of income or a virtual business, and have heard I’ve found a great platform that allows a legit, fun way for income and growth.

But other times, I just reach out first to share with people who may be running so fast, they haven’t had time to think much about their health or career choices more than the status quo. I set up phone calls or Zoom meetings or coffee dates to reconnect or check-in.

I love catching up and listening well to hear where they are coming from and what issues, minor or major, they may be dealing with. And then, I love following up with a few creative ideas on how I may be able to help.

Sometimes it’s with a product, sometimes a referral, and sometimes it’s sharing about this amazing business opportunity.  Regardless, a door has been open for a series of conversations, and it’s those interactions that make life most rich and meaningful.

Sometimes they lead to a sale or a partnership down the road, but that journey is surely more of an art and magic in timing that a rigid science of predictions and quickly-drawn conclusions. I enjoy doing business with people who approach it similarly with great confidence and freedom. It’s human. 🙂

Managing a Digital Business

FullSizeRender 6

Don and I have worked with business owners around the country for years, helping them to grow their business through strategy and sales and marketing systems. Creating and executing systems around prospecting, nurturing, follow-up, closing and servicing is most important but can be challenging.

However, a few simple habits along with a commitment to a set of basic digital tools can help you be most effective in growing your business. It also affords you the luxury of working from anywhere! We prioritize fun and adventure as a family, and so we like systems that allow us the freedom and efficiency in order to play a lot!

We choose to use Google Apps to manage our business. Here are a few tips you may find helpful:

Google Contacts

Your contact list is your biggest asset, so treat it accordingly. Take some time over a weekend and do a “deep clean,” to make sure it is updated. If you are missing a new cell number, physical address or email and are connected to them via Facebook or Instagram, reach out for the info and make sure to update it right away.  Delete those names of people you just can’t seem to remember.

Keep your contact list useful. One of the best ways to do this is choose a few simple groupings to organize them. I use, “Prospects,” “Clients” and “Consultants” in my Arbonne business. And then each day, spend a few minutes reviewing your lists. Who do you need to reach out to? Who should you add to your Prospect list? Star 5 contacts that you want to connect with today and then reach out with a phone call, a relevant article, a valuable referral, or even a surprise gift. Be creative in the ways you add value to people’s lives.

Google Calendar

The critical piece of any sale is a conversation in person. In Arbonne, we seek to educate prospects on our products and business opportunity, and that is difficult to do over text or email.

Sometimes it works to just pick up the phone and call someone randomly, but most people do not like to be interrupted these days by phone. One young Arbonne consultant from England shared humorously that her first thought when she gets a phone call is, “Is someone dead!? Did someone die?!” That’s the severity of a call to some people!

Better to try and text/email first and then schedule a phone call, Zoom call, or coffee date. Google Calendar works beautifully and syncs with all your devices. You can set it to automatically send a reminder right before the meeting. This keeps your interactions professional and also allows you both to set aside the time and attention to really focus on the product or opportunity at hand.

Be thorough in your calendar invite description – add the location and address or personalize the Zoom invitation. Sometimes I will attach the “Discover Arbonne” Presentation. Make it easy for your guest to have the info they need for the meeting.

Then deliver a killer presentation that genuinely connects, and make sure to follow up with an email summarizing your main point and next step. This keeps the ball in your court and moves the sale along.

Google Drive

We are paperless as a business and family. I use Google Drive to store all of my important documents, and I have a special folder for resources that I need to share easily with other consultants or prospects. I have the App on my phone for easy access as well.

Google Tasks

You can use Google Tasks as your “brain dump” to remember those random ideas that come to mind or things you’d like to do one day. But it’s best to also have a list or two that is very functional and that you can commit to. I have a “Daily” list for Arbonne that includes –  Look at at Dashboard, Check in with Detoxers, SAVERS (from Miracle Morning), Social Media Post, etc.- and I try to shoot for that each day. I appreciate the “GoTasks” App also that syncs with my phone so I can access my lists from anywhere.

These powerful tools really do work to give you business results. However, your commitment and consistency will be what really determines your success with them. For some people, organizing and maintaining these systems is natural and easy. For others, it’s more challenging because of their personality and bent. We’ve found it very helpful to walk people through a Strength’s Test and Consultation so they can better understand their tendencies, and we can offer creative solutions that fit their style. Would be happy to share more if interested!

On the Road With Arbonne

Last night I shared some ideas with our team about what it’s like to travel with a family while growing your business. We’ve been on a summer road trip from Colorado to DC and back through Chicago and have pretty much slept in a different bed each night! It’s been an awesome mix of visiting family and friends, seeing historic sites, and participating in Nike Sports Camps. It has been both a rewarding and challenging whirlwind!

But Arbonne is perfect for travel as it is a lifestyle business. Arbonne makes it easy for us with online ordering and convenient packaging! Here are a few tips that we’ve learned from experience that allow travel to be a beneficial way to both grow and enjoy your business!

Be a product of your product

We use Arbonne products every day, so it only makes sense to travel with them. We bring a big bag with us of Chocolate and Vanilla Protein Powder, our Fiber Boost and the Greens Balance into our hotel or home.

Each morning for breakfast we’ll use our Shaker Cup to mix a basic smoothie for ourselves. It’s a great way to get quick nutrition (20 g of Vegan Protein!), get out the door and on the road without worrying about where to find a healthy breakfast.

I also travel with my gold bag of the fabulous RE9 Facial Care Products and love that even with long days of driving, my face doesn’t look as tired thanks to the corrective eye cream and facial day cream!

I also use our awesome big purse from GTC to store the rest of our Arbonne products like full size hair-products, Fizz Sticks, Phytosport, Digestion Plus, catalogues, and samples of RE9 sets, Protein Powder, lipstick/gloss color packets.

Be ready to share

Traveling is fantastic because every time you meet someone new, you have an opportunity to share what you do. Have your 60 second story polished to deliver with authenticity and enthusiasm. I also like to ask questions and really listen to where people are at – it’s amazing what strangers choose to share! I genuinely care about helping people feel better and more healthy, and find it a privilege to be able to help along that journey.

But depending on their needs, you can offer to let them sample products. Ask for their cell number right away so you can text them more info about what they are sampling. And ask their permission to friend them on Facebook or Instagram – an easy way to keep in touch for the long haul. I’ve done this many times on our trip. And let them know you’ll check-in with them soon to follow-up.

Visit friends and family

It’s not always easy to share Arbonne with friends and family when you are long distance, and so try to visit them in your travels! Bring them a gift – something from Arbonne and another from somewhere else like BeWee or My Intent or Mara Mugs.

Offer to make them a shake for breakfast if you stay with them. Share some of the spa products or ask if they’d like to use your RE9 set for the night/morning. Make it comfortable and fun, keeping it real.

I loved being able to be there for a grand opening for a new consultant during our visit to Austin and launch her off in person. If you’d like to be even more strategic, plan your travels around friends who are willing to host a party for you or schedule one-on-one coffee dates in advance!

And if the timing is right, be ready to pull out your laptop and help them sign up and order right away. If not, have fun growing your relationship with them virtually, continuing to follow-up regularly and making a difference in their lives.

No doubt about it, traveling is fun and memorable, and what a treat to be able to grow a business while doing it! Will share more in another article about the digital systems we use to manage it all efficiently on the road!

Start Your Day Off Well

img_9999

Doesn’t life often feel like the movie Groundhog Day? For most people, we fall asleep and wake up in the same bed, go through the same rhythms, and hit the reset button each day. While our own family has certainly tried to shake up the mundaneness of this routine by long-term traveling, there is still a daily grind inherent to life.

Life should have meaning and purpose, adventure and opportunity. You can make a big impact on those around you when you are clear about what’s most important. But sometimes it’s hard to see above the clouds.

One of the best ways to combat the typical rat-race is to be very intentional with your morning routines. From making your bed to setting up a morning practice as described in the Miracle Morning which includes exercise, reading, meditation, visualization, and affirmations – it has been proven that these simple habits can impact your entire life greatly. High caliber individuals are very protective of their morning hours.

Research shows that we tend to be most creative immediately after we wake up. Our brain is rested and increases its ability to make connections, which is when creativity happens. This is why many authors just begin writing after their basic morning habits.

We’ve liked this rhythm for our mornings over the last couple of years:

  1. Wake up, wash up, make bed
  2. Have an easy breakfast with 20-30 grams of protein
  3. Write and get to work on most important creative projects
  4. Read, answer emails
  5. Take a break to exercise mid-morning

Tim Ferriss suggests to get 30 grams of protein, 30 minutes after you wake up. This keeps your body from feeling those mid-morning crashes. Eggs are a great option for protein, but Don and I have really come to love protein shakes even more. We use Arbonne’s vanilla protein powder and Califia coconut milk as the base and then add frozen berries or green apple, a handful of spinach, chia and flaxseeds, fiber, and Greens Balance. If we need more protein or are working out regularly, we will add the Arbonne Protein Boost or a banana as well.

It is surprisingly filling, easy to make, and gets us off and running for the day without experiencing those typical blood-sugar crashes later. We don’t always know where the rest of the day will lead with meals or social gatherings, but we love knowing that we started the day right with so much great nutrition. It’s one thing that we don’t mind feeling like Groundhog Day with because it’s so delicious and frees us up to be creative and spontaneous in the rest of life.

Is there something you’d like to improve on your morning routine?

Before and After

Fun to think about our family’s health journey before and after Arbonne!

Before

One of the things I’ve always cared about throughout my adult years was eating healthy foods, especially as we started raising our own family. When I was pregnant with my first child, my mom sent me some cassette tapes on healthy eating (yes, cassette tapes, and our car actually could play them!). We listened to them as we drove cross-country from Texas to South Carolina for business in 2001.

That information on eating organic foods and staying away from processed foods really helped start our family on a good path. We read box labels to stay away from the big dangers like “partially hydrogenated soybean oil,” and “high fructose corn syrup.” But somehow sugar still remained, especially for little treats and celebrations.

We’re a very active family. My husband ran cross-country and track in college, and I’ve always loved running as a means to stay in shape. I would use it as a way to monitor my weight. But needless to say, having three kids within 4.5 years took my body through a roller coaster in weight gain and loss. And because of my plantar fascitis, it was hard to run long enough to keep the weight off!

We have three kids who all have various food allergies and sensitivities. My husband is half-Korean, and I’m Hispanic, so I feel like some of it is genetic, some of it environmental, but their allergies helped me further explore other dairy-free, gluten-free options throughout their younger years. But it was difficult to find recipes and consistent food options and really stick it out.

Fast-forward now about 10 years.

After

I heard about Arbonne’s 30 Days to Healthy Living Program from a dear friend of mine a couple years ago. It is a clean eating program that helps start great habits of removing dairy, gluten, and sugar from our regular diet; eat fresh, fruits and vegetables and healthy proteins often; and gently cleanse some of the toxins from our system. They offer an online support system, and a 4 week meal plan, complete with recipes and even grocery lists!

I’d always wanted to try something like this, and so just jumped in for a month by myself. The family enjoyed most of the dinner meals. We watched documentaries together like FedUp which talks about the dangers of refined sugar in America, and that changed our sugar habits forever! I really stuck to the program religiously and got to see great results in weight loss and muscle tone, and overall just felt great!

My husband jumped in with me for a second month, and he followed the program diligently as well, and lucky duck, he lost 15+ pounds! With him on board, it made it much easier going forward to maintain a GF/DF/SF (sugar free) diet as a whole family since we could choose recipes and restaurants that would suit those needs together.

My son, Isaac is the one who has the most allergies, and so he was independently motivated to start removing gluten and dairy for himself. He said it made his stomach feel better. And just by doing that (in addition to the sugar of course), he lost 20 pounds of extra weight. He looks like a new kid, and like us, has been able to keep off that weight for over a year!

I’m so grateful for the education and habits that this program offered our family. I feel like we are different from the inside-out and are never going back. It’s catalyzed us in a new direction forever. We continue to use and love Arbonne’s products and share them with other friends and family members. They’ve also come to love them and see the benefits for their family for the long-haul. We all appreciate Arbonne’s commitment to products that are pure, safe, and beneficial.

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about this program, want to lose some extra weight, decrease bloating and inflammation, sleep better, and have extra energy for our busy days, please contact me, and I’d love to connect with you to share more.
