Sleep In Heavenly Peace

Our friend, Steve Gielda and his brother lead the Austin, TX branch of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit organization that builds and delivers beds to kids who are sleeping on the floor. In Austin alone, there are 987 kids waiting for beds from them. This year, through donations and volunteer involvement, they will be able to make 400-500 bed, but they will still fall short of the need.

Each month, volunteers gather in a warehouse in East Austin to cut, sand, drill into and stain the wood that will be used to build the beds.

Today, our oldest son Gabe joined me out there, and we had a great time – smiling, thinking about and praying for the kids who would one day be sleeping in the bed. There was a whole crew of kids from Hyde Park Middle School with us volunteering as well.

In April, we will go back and help to actually deliver and build the beds within the kid’s home. Sleep in Heavenly Peace also brings the bedding and pillows to make the whole gift complete. I can’t wait to meet these kids!
